2008 Subaru Legacy

Trim: 3.0R
by Jnassif on 05-23-2017
Stunner
It might not have the looks of WRX or an STI, but it performs as good as a WRX "" far from STi"
economic but uses only premium, this is why 4/5, very reliable, it is also a timing chain and not a belt, so it is a rock solid fascinating reliable car, I drove this car all across Canada and USA, shore to shore and never had a single problem and would always look for another when it is time for it to go if it ever did

2013 Subaru Impreza

Smooth ride, very reliable
I love my Impreza, it has given me a pleasant experience. It's comfortable, reliable and good for fuel economy. The only thing I dislike is the radio and bluetooth system. Radio skips stations and bluetooth is very difficult to set up and use. Otherwise this car has great performance.

2015 Subaru Outback

Exceeds expectations
We have been very pleased with this car. Its 4 wheel drive all the time; performance in winter snow conditions is great. The extra technologu package with lane departure warnings, adaptive cruise cotnrol, automatic braking when too close to an object - wonderful safety features. THis is our first experience with subaru and we would definitely buy again

Great car for everyday driving
I bought my Legacy used with 200k on it. It was great car for whole year driving, with only minor repairs that I have dne after I purchased it and then just changed the oil. Very good on gas and amazing acceleration thanks to the gearbox.

2013 Subaru Legacy

Love my Subaru
This is my fourth Legacy. I've had a 2008, 2009, 2011, and 2013. Solid vehicle with no mechanical issues. It's unstoppable in the snow. I've gotten 40 mpg(US) on the highway with my 2.5L Boxer engine but generally average close to 30 mpg combined. I like the look of the 3.6R with the dual exhaust but I don't want to take a chance on fuel economy. Subaru needs to update the navigation to include voice recognition for destinations (don't know if it's been done yet). I plan to get another Legacy when I'm ready. BTW, I sell Hyundai, which is also a great car but no AWD sedans except for the Genesis which is more than I want to spend.

2004 Subaru Impreza WRX

What a WRX was meant to be
Loved the WRX since a test drive when they were first introduced to North America in 2002.

Fast all-wheel-drive turbo with a rally racing heritage.

It's an underdog performance car that can keep up with the Porsches and Corvettes at the track, run circles around most in the dirt/snow, has 4 doors for a family, a practical ride height for our Canadian roads and all-weather capability so perfect for the winter too.

2005 Subaru Outback

Trim: 2.5i
by MrGlebe on 01-09-2017
Not as reliable as you'd think
Let's just start with the obvious: this car ROCKS in the snow! I live in Ottawa and use my car for work. I have to park on the street which means during snowstorms I sometimes come out to the car buried under a foot of snow. I clear it off, get in, and drive away like it's nothing!

Performance is decent with the 2.5L 4-cylinder engine and 5-speed manual but let's just say you won't be beating many people off the line unless you really push it. Fuel economy is very disappointing. Averages 13.0L /100km around town which isn't great for a 4 cylinder but I suppose this is a midsize car so I can't complain much. Good mileage on the highway though: 8.5L /100km. I tow a 1,000 lb camping trailer with this car and you can barely tell the trailer is there. On big hills the engine definitely struggles though.

I'm the second owner of this car and it has low mileage on the odometer, 196,000k. I've had to replace a wheel bearing, the steering column and the transmission! NO ONE should have to replace the transmission on a 12 year old Japanese car. I must say I'm very disappointed with my purchase of this car. After driving two unreliable American brand cars I had much higher expectations for this car.

2011 Subaru Legacy

Trim: Limited 3.6R
by DaddyChicken on 01-03-2017
Reliable, Comfortable, Fun to drive
Comfort: The car is roomy. Headroom is very good. The Seats are wide, you can sit 3 comfortably in the back. The trunk is large too. The front bucket seats adjust every which way to accommodate a variety of body sizes and shapes. The 6 cylinder is quiet.
Performance: The optional 6 with the automatic transmission is very decent. You have lots of power for passing. Not to mention, the vehicle has AWD. Traction in snow, and ice as well as wet pavement is excellent. The automatic works decent. No buzzy noises, and it is decisive. If you opt for the smaller 4 (2.5L with CVT) you will notice the droning sound. The 2.5L has adequate power. It definitely won't win any rally races.

Fuel Economy: One of the downfalls of full time AWD is that the car uses more fuel than a FWD vehicle. With spirited driving the 6 cylinder engine will not achieve the posted 11L /100Km. I get about 13 in summer time.

Exterior styling: It has character, especially when compared to an Accord or Camry. Definitely when compared to the new generation of Legacy's. The side skirts are a nice touch. The bold arches on the wheel wells give the car character.

Interior design: The hard plastics on the dash are cheap. The excessive use of silver in the radio/climate/gear shift areas look crappy. The "Fake wood" in the limited really is sucky looking. I love the seats, the soft touch materials to the touch on the doors, and center console. The stock radio and "Bluetooth connect" look 1980s. If you get the optional NAV Deck the performance on it is bad! In addition there is no voice button on the steering wheel. The moon roof is a source of excessive noise. The Harmon Kardan amp/speakers sound great in the car. I am unsure what the point of the analog fuel consumption gauge was for. I would have much rather had a temp gauge.

Bottom line - love the car!

2011 Subaru Impreza

Trim: 2.5L Hatchback
by GaryMcCord on 11-26-2016
Great Car
Very good car, the 2.5L gives you enough speed to accelerate quickly and pass people if needed. Very large amount of cargo room with the hatchback and overall the car is awesome.

Pros:
2.5L Boxer engine is very nice
AWD is very good in snow and rain
Looks good on the outside
Large amount of cargo space
Very reliable and parts are relatively cheap.

Cons:
Cheap looking interior with lots of plastic
Very poor sound system (I replaced the speakers and got a deck for around $500 and it's so much better now)
Fuel economy is poor but that's expected in a AWD car.

My car is currently at around 122,000KM and theres not much ive had to do to it except, change the brakes, change the tires, the usual oil changes and a front headlight.

2006 Subaru Legacy

Trim: 2.5i
by Mojojosback on 11-10-2016
Lots to like, but quirky in some areas.
Great car for the following reasons:

AWD is fantastic. This is real AWD using same TORSEN technology as Quattro, 4Matic and X-Drive. NOT THE SAME AS 4MOTION - much better! Great Winter car.

Heated front seats. Again, great Winter car.

Seats and cockpit layout is ergonomic and seats are hard and conform well. Good quality interior look-and-feel.

Really good headlights.

With suspension upgrade by way of Bilstein dampers and a Spec.B component, as well as good HP tires this car handles like its on rails and is relaxing and fun to drive Otherwise ho-hum.

Lots of good aftermarket parts and components to make this car yours.

Overall reliability is really good except for engine head-gasket issues (see below), which brings my rating down.

This car has some challenges in the following areas:

Standard suspension is not quite right - bit too soft and therefore porpoises, dives and squats due to short wheelbase. Can be easily remedied using some Spec. B components.

Gas economy is just OK - but to be expected with older engine design and AWDs weight and components. Needs a 6th speed and DOHC as standard.

This engine has well documented head-gasket issues at approx. 100K miles, and is prevalent on all Subaru models with this particular engine type. Can lead to engine failure at worst, and head-gasket replacement at best. This is no longer an issue with latest Impreza and Legacy models, and Foresters post-2010.

2006 Subaru B9 Tribeca

by Tribeca_Driver on 10-02-2016
Great winter and rugged vehicle with comfortable ride and lots of room.
You can't beat the feeling of driving a true All Wheel Drive in the snow and ice, or on a gravel or mountain road. Lots of auto makers claim to make AWD SUVs now, but do your research and know the difference in control and stability with a Subaru (or Audi for that matter.) Its a little heavy on fuel consumption compared to a sedan, but the roominess and higher ride makes it more fun to drive and feel solid on road trips. It's stylish interior still gets comments and after 10 years, friends still marvel that its not a new vehicle because the interior surfaces show little to no wear and the styling is still very current.
The main criticism of this model was that its a little under-powered compared to similar SUVs. I'm sometimes an aggressive driver and can't think of when someone has actually out powered me off the line with another car in this class. And in the winter no one does - due to the traction of the full time AWD. I've towed trailers with no complaint as well. So the accusation is technically correct - some others have a little more torque - but in practice who cares?

Most durable, comfortable, low low maintenance
I have owned this car from day 1 (Feb/2011) and I have no complains. It rides well, very quiet inside, roomy too (except 3rd row is tight but kids love it), dash design is futuristic and all the buttons and dials are within reach and easy to read. Gas is not bad for 3.6 litre 256 hp engine (thank Subaru it is regular gas not premium). The sound system is so great Harman Kardon rules. I cannot believe they stopped the production of these vehicles but anticipate they come out strong with exterior facelift to make it MACHO! it is bit lady friendly design from outside today.

2010 Subaru Impreza

by Titofinito on 09-21-2016
Best Car Ever
My wife and I drove our 2010 Impreza 2.5i from Newfoundland to Ontario. Beautiful ride, comfortable and great fuel economy. It currently has 120,000 km on it. 2000 of which went on over the weekend driving from Toronto to Liverpool, Pennsylvania. I was surprised. We got 687 km out of the tank, driving at speeds over 160km uphill a lot of the journey, with a/c on. 1 tank of gas brought us in. And remember, it's AWD and 2.5l. I work with Toyota as a Automotive Technician. But I would recommend an Impreza over a Corolla any day. It rides like a Toyota Camry or Avalon, but performs like a sport car, due to the size of the coil springs and type of suspension. It is not as roomy as most cars, which is my only problem. So our next will possibly be a Forrester our Outback

Perfect sports car under 50,000
Owned for 18 months in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. Survived two winters using Michelin X-Ice 3 tires on 16" steel rims. Fantastic summer driver, meant to pushed and driven to be truly rewarded with its high rev'ing naturally aspirated engine. Easy on gas and cheap on insurance and maintenance. I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a awesome looking, smooth driving, highly reliable car.

Keeps going....
While it does go a lot of KMS, brakes and front drive shafts not great. Also, flat engine makes tune ups a pain. All the interior stuff still works. Not comfy on long trips and low headroom. Stupid cup holder arrangement. Just ok on gas. Awesome in bad weather. We had it in Alberta and coped with the lack of plowing no problem.

2010 Subaru Impreza 2.5i
Beautiful car. drove from Newfoundland to Toronto. Very Comfortable. Not bad on gas for a 2.5l All wheel drive vehicle.
Would recommend over Toyotas. As Subaru's base model, the ride quality is that of a Lexus. I've been a mechanic for over 15 years. And for so much cheaper, give me a Subaru and the change that would leave from buying the Lexus to do other stuff.
Interior styling is nice, but needs a little more room. I'm 6 feet 1 inch. Recommend to all who looking for a nice affordable car. Beautiful in the snow as well. My wife prefers it over the Corolla we had and nissan.

Fuel Economy Excellent
Had this car since 2012. Fuel economy is excellent. Usually turns around 6L/100km on the highway, but have seen 5.4. Amazing for a 4 wheel drive vehicle. All season tires are perfect for extreme winter driving, never felt the need to go to winter tires.
Handling is excellent, however ground clearance is very small. Beware. Would buy another.

Do not buy this car
If you are considering buying this car.....don't.....it has to be the most unreliable car I have ever owned - within 4 years of owning it (the car was meticulously maintained)....the most common problem happened....the head gasket.....cost met $3K to fix it and it was just over the manufacturer's warranty period...complained to the manufacturer and they basically said sorry about your luck but did nothing....got it fixed....two years later same problem and the automatic transmission crapped out.....stay away....go buy something more reliable. Only reason I gave this car a rating of 1 out of 5 is I could not give it zero....if I could have...I would have given it a negative rating....
