1995 Chrysler Intrepid

by Ryan_M on 10-13-2012
Nice to drive, not as nice to own
Chrysler got a lot right with these cars - very, very spacious, fantastic on the highway, felt far smaller to drive than it was, and looked great (although the hubcaps on mine took away some of the impact).

That said, they aren't cheap cars to own. Like many, mine needed a transmission rebuild, tie rods frequently wore out, and there were often other small issues.

2010 Honda Civic

Trim: DX-G

It just works
I owned it for two years and over 70,000kms, and it was a fantastic car. From a practical standpoint, it was reliable, economical, comfortable, and adequately spacious. But it's also one of the more interesting looking alternatives (since Honda made it look like a reject from a sci-fi B-movie with the swoopy styling and digital speedometer), and it was fun to drive. Reasonably powerful (for an economy car), it was light and nimble, and Honda still builds some of the best manual transmissions on the market.

2004 Hyundai Accent

Trim: GSI Hatchback
by Ryan_M on 10-12-2012
Very, very basic transportation
The bad - it's not the most comfortable, it's loud, the fuel economy's mediocre (I've been averaging about 8.9L/100KMS in mixed driving), it's slow (not dangerously so, but it would absolutely benefit from more power) and ventilation's terrible in the three-door model.

On the plus side, it's roomy enough for a small car, the hatchback allows it to carry surprisingly large items, and cost of ownership's fairly low. It was cheap to buy, and over three years and 50,000kms, it's required virtually nothing.
